Explaining our index

The AWR subject index is a logical system that helps researchers find groups of articles that all meet the same subject criteria. Our index is based on the Dewey Decimal Classification system (DDC) but is considerably more fine-tuned for the subjects we are covering. You can browse through our subject index and thus find links between subjects, persons, organizations and books that you otherwise would be less likely to find.

The index is divided into 19 main categories. Each main category is divided into subcategories. Those subcategories are again subdivided. All categories carry numbers so that the link between main and subcategories can be easily seen. The link between a main category and end category is called a string. Articles can have more than one string. One can click on a category anywhere in the index and find the number of articles listed under the category of one’s choice.

It is recommendable to print or download the index and see how different categories are related to each other. This index greatly facilitates your search in our database.
