The General Secretariat of al-Azhar’s Islamic Research Academy has released a statement regarding the crisis of the so-called Abrahamic Religion, whereby certain people have called for the merging of the three divine religions (Islam, Christianity and Judaism) into one faith. Al-Azhar have repudiated these calls, expressing that respect for, and cooperation, between the different religions, does not therefore entail their merging. The statement continued, saying that such a change would pose a “threat to both religion and society”, and would be at odds with the natural differences found amongst humanity, and supported this theory through citing verses from the Qurʾān. Finally, it warned of people calling for an Abrahamic Religion in order to pursue their own personal and political agendas.
