The Archbishop of Sebastia Atallah Hanna [ʿAṭā Allāh Ḥannā] commented on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s decree which paved the way for the Cathedral of Holy Wisdom (Hagia Sophia) to be converted into a mosque. The Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Church of Jerusalem criticised this decision, and said that the Hagia Sophia was built as a church, and will remain a cathedral and a church linked to the ancient Christian heritage and history in the East.
