The discussion at the CAWU seminar led to numerous comments about the contribution of former European Parliament member Bas Belder since he had based his paper on controversial Coptic political activist sources in the USA and Europe which are mostly not in line with that of church leaders and representatives of the Azhar in Egypt. Dr. Kamāl Burīqaʿ ʿAbd al-Salām (Kamal Boraiqa Abdelsalam Hassan) of the Azhar even attributed a substantial part of his paper to a rebuttal of Belder’s arguments. Dr. Scattolin argues that both approaches are not healthy and that in dialogue we first must agree on using the same terms for the same realities and giving facts prevalence over whatever ideology or religion one adheres to. We need to find the commonalities in all religions that advance our humanity. This is mercy and love, truth and justice, and peace.
