Fr. Emilio Platti (1943-2021) sadly suddenly passed away on October 25, 2021. Dutch Arabist and journalist Eildert Mulder decided to honor his memory through a book review of his latest book De Koran herontdekt, Averbode: Uitgeverij Averbode|Erasme N.V, 2020, 96 pages.[1] Platti’s book describes the origin of the Qur’an, including the Christian and Jewish influences on the Arabic peninsula in the centuries prior to the Qur’an and the debates about the dating of the Qur’an. Eildert Murder primarily focuses on the research of revisionist scholars of Islam in the context of the formation of the Qur’anic text. This results in questioning the historical accuracy of traditional biographies of the prophet Muḥammad and thus the classical presentation of the historical context of the Qur’an. Cornelis Hulsman discussed the draft text of Eildert Mulder with Prof. Dr. Hassan Wagieh at the Azhar and wrote a commentary at the end of his text.
