The Coptic Orthodox Church celebrates the Golden Jubilee, fiftieth anniversary, of the consecration of Pope Shenouda III as a monk on the 17th of July. Pope Shenouda was consecrated a monk on the 17th July 1954.


The celebration of this event will be held on the 17th of July in the Monastery of St. Bishoi in Wadi Al-Natroun that will be exclusive to bishops and monks. On the next day,July 18, the Pope will hold a mass at the Monastery of the Syrians that witnessed his consecration fifty years ago. In the evening of the same day, a public celebration will be held at the Cathedral of Saint Mark in Cairo.
