The Council for Islamic Relations (CAIR) has started an advertising campaign on American radio and television channels to counter the distorted representation of Islam and Muslims. The distortion of the image of Islam and Muslims has led to many hate crimes against Muslim Americans. The campaign, entitled “I am an American Muslim,” focuses on the fact that American Muslims are a part of American society and talks about how they have contributed to building American society.
