Islamists could play a key role in Egypt's near future. They are well organized and popular.

But the Islamists don't belong to a single, homogeneous group. They constitute of different groups, which are in the process of change, in order to cope with the new reality.

What is totally new is their political experience that is proving controversial with the people and experts. The salafists say they will support any Islamist faction that applies sharī'ah and works according to salafī principles. There are now around seven parties with a salafī background in the making.
