Lieutenant General Sāmī 'Anān, chief of staff and deputy chairman of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), stressed the importance of continued investigations into the Maspero incidents during the current period to recognize and penalize those who are involved in such incidents, and to promote the results of the investigation to the public.

During a meeting held with a delegation of the Orthodox Church leaders and Christian clerics at the Ministry of Defense in Kubrī al-Qubah, 'Anān said that the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) is keen to establish a democratic and civil state based on equity among all citizens without discriminating between Muslims and Christians, as all are equal in rights and duties.
