In the runoff elections for the People Assembly, 8 former member of parliament, as well as 6 Copts and 32 women are competing for  21 seats in Sohag [Reviewer's Note: the number of women competing mentioned in the text (32) differs from the number mentioned in the title (23)].

Amongst al-Wafd Party candidates there is one Copt, Khalīl Subhī Sulaymān, who is running for the professional seat [and not for the seat reserved for 'workers and peasants'].
