Al-Jamā‘a al-Islāmiyyah group’s Shūrá Council met Tuesday, February 22, 2011 in Sohag governorate, to discuss the possibility of forming a political party, restructuring the group, and make new elections for the members of it's Shūrá Council.

The group has held a number of meetings since former President Husnī Mubārak's resignation, which weren't allowed before. Their activities were restricted following their release from prison, after they had announced an initiative to stop violence.

‘Isām Darbālah, leading figure of al-Jamā'ah al-Islāmiyyah, said they will announce their position on forming a political party within ten days.
