The Ministry of Interior Affairs denied the claims of Hishām al-‘Ashrī of demanding credentials for the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (CPVPV) that he established.

Al-‘Ashrī had stated that he submitted a request to the Ministry to have his committee be affiliated to the Ministry and in charge of applying the Islamic sharī’ah on Egyptian citizens and forcing them to commit to the proper clothing and manners.
