A number of representatives of the Popular Movement for the Independence of Al-Azhar in the Constituent Assembly requested the deletion of Article III of the Constitution, which refers  Christians and Jews to their own religious codes, but that the text of Article II remains unchanged.

Sāmih Ashūr the rapporteur of the Social Dialogue Subcommittee agreed with them and stated that the article was created as a balance to Article 219 in the 2012 Constitution. He assured that the second article guarantees to non-Muslims the ability to refer to their own codes (Muhammad Sālim and Raniā Rabī’, al-Shurūq, Oct. 4, p. 4). This article has no link online.
