Father Athanāsiyūs Ḥīnayn [Athanāsiyūs Ḥenein], parish priest of the Greek Orthodox Diocese of Athens, called for the removal of faculties of Islamic and Christian sciences from “the narrow paths of religious discrimination”, and make them accessible for all students in secular universities.

He said in an interview to al-Shurūq that renewal of the Christian sermon will not be achieved as long as it emerges from an isolated ivory tower that is out of touch with the humanity’s contemporary issues. According to Ḥīnayn, a close-to-the humanity discourse requires spiritual and scientific efforts in order to stop the common mindset in the Arab region from a necessitarianismimposed by clerics who hide their ignorance of contemporary issues.
