On July 5, 2010, seven years ago, Naṣr Ḥāmid Abu Zayd, well-known Egyptian liberal Islamic thinker, died in Egypt. Because of his controversial liberal thoughts and writings on Qur’ān, Abu Zayd, who occupied several academic positions, was declared apostate in 1995 by an Egyptian Sharī’ah court.
