H.E. Amr Moussa and Cornelis Hulsman
The Center for Arab-West Understanding has gradually, over the years, become Egypt’s largest internship provider. We have been able to publish two academic books that are based on the work of several of our interns. We are pleased that H.E. Amr Moussa, chairman of the Constituent Assembly in 2013, Secretary-General of the Arab League, 2001-2011, Minister of Foreign Affairs, 1991-2001, and H.E. Ambassador Mona Omar, former deputy Foreign Minister, will launch this most remarkable effort of our interns. The launch will be held on March 26, 2018, 13.00 hrs at Heliopolis University for Sustainable Development.

If you are not in Egypt, you can nevertheless share with us in the joy of this celebration. It was hard to pick a date for this program because of the busy schedules of our presenters, speakers, and guests. March 26 also happens to be the first day of the presidential elections in Egypt, but this is purely coincidental.
The books to be launched are:
The 2014 Egyptian Constitution; Perspectives from Egypt
Authors: Diana Serodio, Cornelis Hulsman (ed)
Forword: H.E. Amr Moussa

From Ruling to Opposition; Islamist Movements and Non-Islamist Groups in Egypt, 2011-2013
Authors: Eline Kasanwidjojo, Quinta Smit, Jayson Casper, Nicholas Gjorvad, Cornelis Hulsman
Editor: Cornelis Hulsman

Key elements of the two books
The books are based on numerous interviews conducted by student interns at the Center for Arab-West Understanding, Egypt, during the years 2011-2014. They witnessed a turbulent period in which Islamists attempted to come to power and consolidate their power. The interviews have been fully transcribed and were placed in the databases of Arab-West Report and the Data Archiving and Networked Services (DANS) of the combined Dutch Universities and Research Centers. Researchers also verified the literature and carefully analyzed both the interviews and the literature. A key feature of both books is the research objectivity maintained throughout both texts.
Order
The books can be ordered for 29,95 Euros from Tectum Verlag, Germany. There will be additional copies available at the book launch as long copies are available. In the event that there are no additional copies available, please register your name and contact information at the information table and we will contact Tectum Verlag for additional orders. s.
