Upcoming Interfaith Lecture by Archbishop George Carey - Reforming Religious Discourse as a Way of Combating Terrorism
On Friday, July 13, at 7 p.m., the former archbishop of Canterbury, Lord George Carey, will speak at St. John the Baptist Anglican/Episcopal Church in Ma‘adi, south Cairo. He will address the important theme of reforming religious discourse as a way of combating terrorism and sectarian violence. Lord Carey served as the archbishop of Canterbury from 1991-2002. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Durham and is the author of numerous books and articles on theology, politics, and interfaith relations.
Following Lord Carey’s presentation, the dialogue will continue with responses from Archbishop Mouneer Anis, who leads the Anglican/Episcopal church in Egypt, North Africa, and the Horn of Africa, and Professor Hassan Wagieh, professor of political science and linguistics at Al-Azhar University. There will also be time for questions and answers with the audience.
