This article describes in detail the sectarian event that took place for nearly a full day in Marsa Matrouh. Coptic Christians, as well as their property, was attached in a riot in Matrouh on the 12^th of March. Homes and cars were burned, as well as many Copts were held prisoner in a Charity house while attacks raged outside. Many were taken to the hospital, yet some Copts were taken to the police station and beaten after the attack. It is said that the riot started due to the call from an Imam over the loudspeaker of a Mosque. They were also joined by Bedouins from outside the village.
