Dr. Muhammad Salīm al-'Awā, Islamic thinker and presidential hopeful, refused a campaign calling to elect Field Marshal Tantāwī in the presidential elections. Al-'Awā added that Tantāwī is not behind this, and this is an attempt to drive a wedge between the Army and the people.

The Islamic thinker said that everyone, whether Muslim, Christian or Jew, have the right to use religious or non-religious slogans during the parliament elections.
