Police forces with Monufia's Security Department arrested Ashraf, a 40-year old with criminal records, who attempted to burn Saint George's Church in Minūf city, Monufia governorate. His brother was arrested for possession of unlicensed machine-guns and bullets.

While his brother was being arrested, Ashraf poured kerosene on the church's wall and some of the attached buildings. The latter tried to set the church on fire when one of the guards saw him and chased him but Ashraf managed to escape.
