CAWU Forum Meetings on Holy Family and Egypt’s Forthcoming Elections

AWR, Cairo, March 22, 2015

The Center for Arab-West Understanding is very active in organizing forum meetings which are attended by our interns and friends of the Center.

On March 17 Cornelis Hulsman spoke about the Egyptian Holy Family tradition. Bishop Martyrus attended on behalf of H.H. Pope Tawadros. Eng. Adel Gendy, representing the Ministry of Tourism, spoke about the ambitions of the ministry in developing the route of the Holy Family through Egypt for both Christian and cultural tourism. Hulsman explained that this important Christian tradition shows how Christians and Muslims have lived together. It is also possible to make a link to the cultural routes of the Council of Europe but this needs a group of multidisciplinary academics to research and document various aspects of the tradition. Bishop Martyrus suggested the Coptic Orthodox Church could organize the needed academic conference.

Please find the report here.

Earlier forum meetings have been organized by Khaled Hassan, such as the February 27th meeting with Mohammed Badran. Badran spoke on the vision and challenges that face Mustaqbal Watan. On January 19th we held a forum with Mohammed Anwar al-Sadat a member of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs and the founder and chairman of the El Sadat Association for Social Development & Welfare.

Both spoke about the forthcoming parliamentary elections. Please find the report for the Badran and Sadat events.
