Dr. Janneke Stegeman, a Dutch Protestant Christian theologian and researcher in the Old Testament, religion, conflict and peacebuilding, believes ecumenism between Christians, Muslims and Jews should be seriously considered. Stegeman’s arguments are given and so is the critique on her arguments by Henk Glimmerveen and Eildert Mulder, both long time readers and friends of Arab-West Report. They strongly favour good relations with our Muslim neighbours, but find Dr. Janneke Stegeman’s approach too naïve, presenting an ideal image of Islam that does not match with the reality Christians in the West often witness. Hulsman warns that religion is always influenced by the politics of the day, and criticizes Dr. Janneke Stegeman for her use of Islamic terminology in a non-Islamic context.
