In July 2024, the Arab-West Foundation was elected Head of the Dutch Network of the Anna Lindh Foundation. They organized their first Dutch network meeting on November 25th where, among other things, they spoke about the need to contribute to peace-building in the Middle East. This applies first of all to the countries in the Middle East but also to Dutch society because of the deep divisions that exist between pro-Israel advocates (smaller in number but aligning well with the pro-Israel direction of the current Dutch government) and pro-Palestine advocates (larger in number and frustrated about the Dutch government bias towards Israeli government policies). The Arab-West Foundation asked Dutch Arabist, Trouw columnist and advisor to the Arab-West Foundation board, Eildert Mulder, who covered the Middle East for the past 50 years for his views on dialogue. This is the text he presented to members and in the evening to participants in the dialogue conference titled: “Messages of Hope and Peace: Connecting for a Just Future for Palestine-Israel.”
