Nādiya Qaḥf has become the first ḥijāb-wearing Muslim woman to be appointed to the Supreme Court in the US state of New Jersey. Judge Qaḥf is Syrian-American, having come to America at the age of 2 with her family. Preceding her appointment to the Supreme Court of New Jersey, she specialized in family and immigration law and was the president of the Council on American-Islamic Relations in New Jersey. Her appointment has been seen by many to be an important milestone, inspiring fellow Muslim women and demonstrating that professional success may be achieved whilst remaining true to one’s faith.
