On Saturday evening, Pope Tawāḍrūs II of the Coptic Orthodox Church led the Easter mass at the Saint Mark Cathedral in al- ͑Abbāsīya, thus marking a fast of 55 days for Lent.

The Patriarch of the See of Saint Mark entered into the Church amongst a group of archbishops, priests, monks, and deacons, all wearing their ritual clothing, carrying crucifixes, and chanting hymns of Easter as the church was emblazoned everywhere with roses and white flags to mark the jubilant celebration.
