The interview was conducted with a member of the Waṭan Party, just after he had left politics. He was never involved in politics before he joined the Nūr Party in 2012. In December 2013 he left the Nūr Party for the Waṭan Party. He left politics in May 2013 because he could not agree with some of the decisions that were being made in his party. For this reason he asked to publish this text anonymously. We asked in 2016 again for his name to be published but he remained adamant that he was no longer involved in politics and therefore did not want his name to be mentioned. The questions center around the political participation of Salafists in Egypt after the Revolution in 2011, the discrimination of salafis in the public sector prior to the revolution, the links and (political) differences between Salafī-groups and the Muslim Brotherhood and the sectarian strives in Egyptian society. This interview was part of an Arab-West Report project for a book on Islamist movements during the year 2013. Data collected were placed online in June 2016. All interviewees gave their approval to publish the transcripts.
Length: 24 pages (pdf)
