Religious scholars came to be divided between supporters and opponents to the idea of the nomination of Muslim women in elections and regarding their rights in participating in the political life. The Mufti and sheikh Youssef Al-Badri believe that women’s nature does not allow them to have a role in political life and that this is part of their guardianship over men and this is refused by Islam. Dr. Youssef Al-Qaradawi is of opinion that the number of women nominating themselves is very limited and the sweeping majority will always be for men. In addition, when the Qur’anic verse mentions that men are the protectors and maintainers of women, it means within the frame of marital life.
