The Egyptian cultural scene during 2003 was more like a farce. Dozens of conferences on art, cinema, drama, and music were held. But all of them were useless, for they did not discuss the real issues. Many creative intellectuals attacked and criticized these conferences, even before they were held. Many well-known authors criticized the conference entitled "The Future of Arab Culture" held after the British-American invasion of Iraq. They even suspected the objectives of the conference, and they claimed that it was held on behalf of the U.S. Many other conferences faced the same attacks.
