The opening of the Darfur Reconstruction Conference in March 2010 recalled Egyptian-Sudanese Archpriest Filotheus Farag of al-Shaheedein. Filotheus preaches coexistence, acceptance, and love of all people, asserting it is God’s will to respect all cultures and he is renowned for his ability to simply theological information; specifically, Filotheus has written on the similarities between Christians and Muslims. Filotheus’ mission for peace is not limited to the religious sphere and he played an active role as a messenger of peace after the failed assassination attempt on Egyptian president Husnī Mubārak in Addis Ababa. He has also played a significant role in the Egyptian-Sudanese reconciliation process and is currently involved in reconciling the political dispute in Darfur. Filotheus also notes that there is no religious fanaticism in Sudan and the disputes that arise concern the unfair distribution of resources.
