On April 19, 2011, the Council of Sūfī Orders has decided to form popular committees to protect shrines of religious figures in Qena from potential assaults by demonstrators. The council is also preparing speeches and lectures to prove that the construction of shrines is in accordance with the Sunni Islamic Sharī‘ah law. The Council of Sufi Orders blames the Muslim Brotherhood and salafīs of being behind recent attempts to demolish shrines.
