On Friday, April 22, 2011, tens of thousands of people protested in front of Qena governorate headquarters against newly-appointed governor ‘Imād Mikhael.

A female protester addressed the crowd, shouting “Youth of Qena and people of Qena, we are all one and there is no difference between a Muslim and a Christian. We all do not want the new governor because our experience with the former governor was unsuccessful."
