Field Marshal Husayn Tantāwī, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), and Prime Minister 'Isām Sharaf approved the Family House initiative launched by the Azhar to confront sectarian troubles.
Field Marshal Tantāwī's approval was recited by Grand Shaykh of the Azhar Dr. Ahmad al-Tayīb during a meeting held at the Azhar headquarters on July 13, 2011, attended by the initiative members representing the Azhar, Dār al-Iftā' (Ifta House) and the Egyptian Orthodox, Evangelical and Catholic churches.
Dr. Mahmūd 'Azab, an advisor to the Azhar Shaykh for Interfaith Dialogue Affairs and the spokesman for the initiative, said the initiative members have been waiting for this approval so that work would commence on the ground and the initiative would get credibility.
