Several papers carry reports on the Egyptian Foreign Ministry’s criticism of the hearing held at the U.S. House of Representatives dealing with the situation of minorities, including Christians, in Egypt and Iraq.
Under the headline “Egyptian Foreign Ministry Sharply Criticizes U.S. House of Representatives,” al-Misrī al-Yawm reports that Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Husām Zaki described the session as being full of “fallacies and imprecise claims that Egypt’s enemies in American circles have continuously circulated.”
The report also carries a statement by Tharwat Bāsīlī, Secretary of the Coptic Orthodox Community Council, who said that the church cannot prevent expatriate Copts from speaking and that the Foreign Ministry should respond to the alleged fallacies with its point of view.
