Responding to the huge stand of the salafīs yesterday before in Kafr el-Shaykh to support Shaykh Abu Ishāq al-Hūwīnī against Muftī Alī Gum’ah, a large number of scholars and students from al-Azhar and the global union of sūfī scholars headed by Prof. Hassan al-Shāfi’ī decided to organize a stand next Thursday in al-Azhar in solidarity with the muftī against the verbal insults and accusations directed to him by al-Hūwīnī and Māzin al-Sirsāwī in one of the episodes of a program called “Haras al-Hudūd” broadcasted lately in al-Hikmah channel. The Union called upon all the Egyptian following the Azhar approach to attend and participate in the stand. The muftī, consequently, sued him. As a result, thousands of salafīs launched severe attack against Guma’ah in a demonstration organized Saturday morning in front of the court where al-Hūwīnī is judged.
