Shaykh Mahmūd 'Āmir, Salafī leader and president of Ansār al-Sunnah al-Muhamadīyah, issued a fatwá prohibiting voting for non-Muslims candidates in the parliamentary elections.

He prohibited anyone to vote for Copts, seculars, liberals and the dissolved National Democratic Party remnants who does not call for applying Islamic Sharī'ah in their platform. He added, "Voting for those is legitimately unlawful, whoever does that has committed a great sin."

He asked voters to vote for candidates who are on the Islamists' lists or any other candidates that are known for always praying in the mosques.

Shaykh Ahmad Farīd, Board Member of salafī da'wah in Alexandra, said that Islam does not acknowledge a secular Muslim or a liberal Muslim. Islam does not know liberality or absolute freedoms.
