A military justice source said Priest Philpater Jamīl of the Virgin Mary Church in the Giza district of Faysal was not arrested at Cairo International Airport as some mass media published, adding he was only barred from traveling outside Egypt.
The priest came to the military prosecution department to settle his position regarding the decision prohibiting him from leaving Egypt, said the source, noting there were legal procedures observed and later on his name was removed from the airport’s blacklists.
Priest Philopater, who was heading for London aboard a British Airways plane, is facing charges of incitement against the armed forces during the October 9, 2011 incidents outside the state radio & TV building in Maspero area, which left dozens killed or wounded.
