Dr. Muhammad Najīb 'Awadīn, Secretary-General for the supreme council for Islamic Affairs of al-Liwā' al-Islāmi, said that Political movements adherence to the word “principles of Islamic sharī’ah” rather than “laws of Islamic sharī’ah” is caused by the Supreme Constitutional Court announced interpretation to the word “principles”. The Constitutional Court interpreted the word “principles” as “all that is explicit and direct in its meaning”, a speech that involves error and risk. There is nothing in Islam that has explicit meaning except in the Qur’ān, consequently that leaves out the sunnah of the Prophet from the sources of legislation, as well as other sources of legislation in Islam.
