Al-Tahrīr summarises Coptic celebrations and prayers which took place on Palm Sunday in Cairo and across Egypt, highlighting specifically the fact that this Palm Sunday falls at a time during which Egyptian Christians have been undergoing a lot of difficulties, particularly during the recent period of Muslim Brotherhood rule. Pope Tawadros led prayers at the Saint Bishoy Monastery, while around 50,000 Copts attended prayers at Saint Simon the Shoemaker (Dayr Sam’ān al-Kharāz) in al-Muqattam. The Church of Saint George in Al-Wastá, which has recently seen protests, also held prayers with a strong security presence in the surrounding streets (Peter Majdī and others, al-Tahrīr, Apr. 29, p. 7). Read original text in Arabic.
