Bishop Paul, the representative of the Orthodox Church in the Constituent Assembly (also known as the Committee of 50), stated that he has not yet made a final decision on Article 219 of the suspended constitution. The article that has explained the principles of sharī’ah has been left by the Experts Committee to the Constituent Assembly to decide whether to omit or to keep it.  He did mention, however, in response to the statements by the representatives of Al-Azhar in the committee that the article does no harm by saying “it may not do harm to Muslims but it does to Christians” (Yassir Ibrahīm, al-Wafd, Sept. 16, p. 4). Read original text in Arabic.
