The Ministry of Social Solidarity announced the dissolution of 169 associations linked to the Muslim Brotherhood in 9 governorates. The ministry further announced a change in the board of directors of 1083 associations which it runs/operates since the military coup in 2013.

The step is in accordance with Egyptian law to ban the Muslim Brotherhood and any activities or associations associated with the group. This also includes the 169 associations that were established under the former president Mursī. The court’s decision to ban the Muslim Brotherhood and related activities and institutions came in September 2013. Finally the government denounced the Islamist movement as a terrorist group in January 2014.
