According to BBC news Arabic, the Abū Sīfīn church was burned and 41 people were announced dead, including children, and 16 people were injured.

Pope Tawāḍrūs II pointed out in a statement the responsibility of Egyptian authorities to participate in the expansion of narrow churches in order to suit the number of worshippers.

The fire at the Abū Sīfīn church was caused by a short circuit, but it was also mentioned that due to its tiny structure and few exits, which were not enough, hindered the 500 people to escape this tragedy.
