Dr. Hesham Ali Sadek discusses

the principle of equality according to the

constitution and according to Islamic law. He shows that the

constitution stipulates that all Egyptians are equal,

and that this means that the Hamayouni law is

unconstitutional. He provides examples to show that Islamic law too

is against the restrictions imposed on

building churches; the Prophet Muhammad and the Caliph Umar respected people

of the book [Muslims,

Christians and Jews], allowing them to use their houses of worship, and even allowing

Christians to pray in

the prophet’s mosque.
