Advisor to the Azhar Grand Shaykh, Dr. Mahmūd ‘Azab, tells al-Dustūr that the Azhar Center for Dialogue welcomed relations with all religions, including all different sects of Islam, in order to work towards unifying the Islamic discourse and to correct any misconceptions about the religion.

He also said that the Azhar does not recognize Qadianism or Bahā’ī as legitimate Islamic sects and that the Azhar refuses to talk to the Jewish right because of its support for Israel.

‘Azab blamed the recent rise in sectarian friction between Egypt's Muslims and Copts on the Arab world’s “ignorance and shallowness of culture and knowledge,” saying that Egypt should start renovating itself.
