During the second seminar in a series of seminars called, “Participate in Amending your Constitution,” organized by the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center in the Cathedral of St. Mark in Abbassīya, Dr. Muná Zulfaqār, Vice-Chairman of the Constituent Assembly stated that she is guilty of the proposal to amend Article III constitution by deleting the words “Christians and Jews” and replacing them by the words “non-Muslims”. Several Copts highlighted the dangers of this proposal stressing their fear of a possible future law that provides for writing “non-Muslim” rather than “Christian” or “Jew” on the national ID and official documents. She clarified that the proposal was meant to ensure the freedom of belief of the Egyptians which is not inconsistent with the divine religions (Mustafá Rahūmah, al-Watan Oct. 1, p. 8). Read the original text in Arabic.
