The performance of singer Īhāb Tawfīq in a French Orthodox church, belonging to the Coptic Orthodox Church of Egypt, sparked anger and mocking. [CH: this church was founded by the late Bishop Marcos of France and Bishop Athanasius of France and consists mainly of French converts to Orthodoxy. They later joined the Coptic Orthodox Church but because they are in many aspects quite liberal many Egyptian Coptic Orthodox at times express unease with them.
