Egypt deletes Salah al-Din and Uqba ibn Nafi from the curriculum
The Egyptian ministry of education decided to delete paragraphs about Salah al-Din and Uqba ibn Nafi from the curriculum since they allegedly promoted violence and extremism among the people, since their popularity among Muslims is due to their victory over the crusaders, that is the West. The deletions were part of a comprehensive revision of the primary and secondary school curriculum with the goal of deleting any content that promotes violence and hatred of any kind. However several school directors did not comply and carried with the old curriculum. In addition the ministry deleted sensitive material from the middle school curriculum, arguing that the paragraphs served as blueprints for Islamic state execution practices. The revision was criticized for blurring and transforming Islamic history.
