The Grand Imām of al-Azhar, Shaykh Dr. Aḥmad al-Ṭayyīb, has spoken on the need to prioritize the correct qualities and holding good ethics in high regard when choosing a wife or husband. Whilst speaking on an episode of his daily Ramaḍān television show, al-Imām al-Ṭayyīb, the Shaykh cited several ḥadīth of the Prophet Muḥammad, which emphasized that factors other than the five pillars of Islam were also important. In the same address, he also clarified several expectations and rules regarding engagement and family approval.
