Despite Muṣṭafā Kāmil’s large presence in Egyptian political life at the end of the 19th Century and the beginning of the 20th Century, his death didn’t change much for the Egyptian national political move against the English.  Muḥammad Farīd and others were able to complete his trajectory unburdened by pressures from the English while abandoning the Khedive ʿAbbās.  Perhaps looking at the transformation of Khedive ʿAbbās’s position regarding the Egyptian national movement is worthy of consideration.  The khedive, who built his legitimacy on real and serious opposition to the English and on supporting Muṣṭafā Kāmil and his colleagues, began to gradually take over the national movement, especially after Kāmil’s death.  This take-over led to leaders of movement accusing him of conspiring against Kāmil.
