Baheb al-Sima triggered a debate on the Church’s role in supervising artistic material. While clergymen demanded that the Church be consulted on works relating to religion in any way, representatives of the Censorship Authorities rejected the role of religious institutions, whether they represent the Azhar or the Coptic Church. They argued that the Censorship Authorities is a civil institution that should not be under any religious supervision.
