Forty-one years have passed since the founding of the youth bishopric in the 1970s.  As Islamist currents of thought became more mainstream in Egyptian society, Pope Shinūda III had become concerned about the future of Christian youth.  For him, the youth bishopric was a way to hand down Coptic Orthodox doctrine from generation to generation.  However, in recent years, the church’s extremely conservative school of thought has taken over the bishopric, in contradiction to the exact purpose it was established for.
